Some basics are, essentially, that Carys was raised by her human "father" to be a spy for his house and to manipulate his allies and enemies. At some point, she departed his keep and his circle, and found herself drawn into the events of the Fifth Crusade.*

(Please know I am aware of spoilers but this is ~what the Knight-Commander knows~ and isn't actually real and we're gonna just roll with it because I haven't finished the game, yahoo!)

Carys sits somewhere between Neutral Good and Chaotic Good depending on her whims and fancies, and she is not particularly shy about being weird about it. She likes to surround herself with dichotomies, just like she is; she wants to be around equally chaotic individuals like Daeran and Woljif, but needs her ship guided by others like Ember, Regill, and Ulbrig. And Seelah and Lann are often her friendly moral compass for the world.

So she is a woman of dual faces, of someone who thinks life is a bit of a joke but who longs for authenticity and understanding, and someone who knows life is cruel and difficult but is it really worth saving and working towards some kind of goodness?
